The Division of Veterinary Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine
The Division of Veterinary Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine, Faculty of veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Kashmir was carved out from Division of Veterinary Medicine in the year 2001 with a vision to be recognized as a department of excellence in the areas of livestock disease epidemiology & preventive medicine. The scientific staff of the division is working tirelessly to achieve the desired targets. The division has the distinction of facilitating MoU between SKUAST-Kashmir and ICAR-NIVEDI, Bangaluru Karnataka in the year 2016. Together, the faculty members are working on areas of Veterinary Epidemiology and Livestock Disease Management using farmer and eco-friendly alternatives. This Division provides an inspiring environment where education, research and extension go hand in hand for development and transfer of technology from lab to land, with an ultimate aim of achieving sustainable societal through livestock sector.
The mission of Division of Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine is to improve the overall health of animal and human populations through dissemination of knowledge to prevent, control, or eradicate disease and to promote sustainable agricultural productivity through livestock sector.The mission incorporates each of the three components of teaching, research, and extension. The teaching mission is the education of graduate, professional, and post-graduate students as well as the provision of outreach education in effective disease control, prevention, and eradication strategies to meet current and future societal needs in veterinary medicine and public health. The research mission is the discovery of knowledge leading to the development of methods to prevent disease; ensure agricultural sustainability, productivity, and efficiency; and, promote health in human and animal populations. The extension mission is to provide professional expertise to assist in the decision-making processes of animal and human health professionals and commercial organizations, as well as local, state, national, and international organizations as they endeavor to promote the health of human and animal populations.
Such other purposes as the university may deem/determine essential from time to time.
Provide remedial measures, technical know-how to animal owners and veterinary professionals / concerned personnel on disease management and control in livestock with emphasis on diagnosis, treatment, bio-security and vaccination strategies of important diseases in their animals
